My first 125 cruiser was N / Gear up. not 1 Down / 3 Up. So if i was in 4th gear and i had to shift down to 2nd or first, it was by pushing it down 3 times. Click, Click and Click. Its a nightmare of a first bike, i didn't bother riding it on the road untill i mastered the clutch in? all gears. And worst of all it was a Kick Star bike, so stalling it at traffic lights was always fun. I also learned the hard way about bump starting So i often do that now, 1st gear and give it a push turn over.

I used a Fujifilm FinePix z20fd compact digital camera (with movie mode) for this. I have another video on my helmet? cam setup with this camera. This was a few years ago - I'm using a GoPro and audio now.

- The xvs 125 is a nice little bike, gets good ratings, looks good too! It seems like a good affordable, reliable bike to learn on, and should have enough? oomph for city and commutes. Open highway it could be underpowered but most folks say it'll do 60-70mph. Most folks say it rides bigger than 125. As you get more confident, you'll outgrow it. I've heard that the $1,000 - $1,500 pound range is the norm. Cheap to fill and good mileage. Good luck!

G'day! Yep, floorboards are nice. This was a Yamaha VStar 650 classic. The 1100 has floorboards too, but you? can add them to most cruisers. Have fun and enjoy!!!

G'day, Great video, I am a beginner in motorbikes and like the traditional style and great looking bikes with character. What is? your bike? I like the idea of the floorboards and heel and toe shifter. Thanks

I think your bike has 4 gears, chain drive. The number of gears depends on the make and model of bike. My VStars (650 and 1100cc) had 5 gears,? my Victory (1,731cc) has 6 with a true overdrive. Apparently the VLX rides well at around 55mph, though you'll probably get some vibration and it'll feel like you want a 5th (or more) gear. My 650 VStar did this. The 1100 less so. The Vic purrs along at 80mph in overdrive and could do much more. Good luck in your class, and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for replying back.I have another question to ask. I have a 1992 Honda Shadow VLX - 600 Motorcycle that I purchased it years ago and always thought that? my bike only has three gears, now I'm finding it might have six gears and that most cruiser bikes have 6 gears, is that true and could my bike have 6 gears instead of 3. When I purchased the bike it didn't come with a owner's manual. Whatever information you could give me will be most helpful, because you know more that I do.

- Glad to see you're taking a class! The Honda Shadow is a good beginner's bike. :-) On a 600 the shift points might be around 12-15 mph into 2nd, and around 25-35 mph for 3rd. If you have an owner's manual, it should tell you. I'd suggest not getting hung up on speed - listen to your engine. The tone will tell you when to shift.? In the class you probably won't get into 3rd. There are times you may want more torque in a lower gear at higher speed (e.g., cornering). Listen to your engine.

Hello Drino: I'm going to be taking the motorcycle driving test within a week and I have a question to? ask. I have a Honda Shadow VLX -600 1992 model and my question is how fast should I be going on the bike to change to the second gear and than the third gear ass well. Thank You.
