even do everyone has the right to make a comment, i canīt help but wonder how "groovy" you guys are behind the kit...i guess i still have to much to learn, but if i have a bad comment about someone? like Mr. Weckl, i would try at least to pick my words carefully. Have some respect folks.

A tempo is a tempo and a groove is a groove. Has nothing to do with mic placement or sound quality. Tempo and Groove? is the greatest challenge for us drummers. No one can take away the fact that Dave is an amazing drummer. But it doesnt make it "illegal" to be critical! As I said in an earlier post, I also saw Dave at GN 03 Live with the drums blasting from the PA. Tempo slowed down, he blew a fill and missed the ending of the song. We are all human;)

Jazz musicians need groove night like is a holiday but drummers that? groove for a living do it every day.

Doesnt feel good at all. He doesnt seem comfortable with the tempo or? whatever. Reference version of this tune is on the Rufus/Chaka "Stompin at the Savoy" album with John JR Robinson on drums. Also heard Dave at GN 2003. His tempo slowed down and he? f** up the ending on his song. Seems everybody are human somehow:)

get reall guys the problem is at the microphones sound!nothing is clear...(probably the low quality video is responsible for this)the drums is a little lower than the? voice and heeeeellllll mucc higher than the other instruments!if you watch at the big screen at the backround it ise really clear he is playing the same way he always does ,withs his triplets and etc...weckl!respect guys!he is dave weckl!

Ok. I'll concede half of my point. When the chorus lands around 1:30, it starts to feel decent because he plays Simple. Its when he is Over-playing? is when it is weird. Its a pop tune. Play the pop tune. btw... Do you really think a guy at that level has an "off day"? Theres no way. The fundamentals are too deep.

Great singer and band, I think this version, being so laid back and slow, sort of hindered dave's? groove, especially being a vocal track, he's leaving space for the vocals. Aaron Spears would have cut it up to bits, that's his thang, being a church groover, he's use to lots of improvisation over a vocal, he still moves in and takes over, and it sounds awesome.

greg howe? did this song in his new album "soundproof"

This probably? isn't one of Dave's best moments behind the kit, but he is one hell of a drummer. Steve Jordon would have been a better choice here.

the blonde singer is vinnie dressed as? a chic after god chopped his knackers off. i never knew vinnie was into science fiction fantasy. still, two words that would cure any musical ailment or debate. vinnie colaiuta

By: schwene2. on 07 Jun 08, 05:41:51
wouldn't it boring if everyone played everything the SAME way? 'authentic funk'...geez! get a life. of course 'authentic funk'? is great but we're not stuck in the 50's, 60's, etc. things are changing with the times and there is more to discover. isn't that what music is about? creativity? and like what MasterT said, Weckl knows everything there is to know about the style of drumming. you easily discredit weckl's decades worth of experience. What have you got?
By: Listendudeok. on 12 Apr 08, 04:16:51
So according to you, Weckl can't play funk? ? Hahaha...c'mon man.
By: DrumMasterT. on 08 Apr 08, 16:52:52
Hmm...Tell me how a recital? from the most prestigiouse music institute in the world could be bad? And man you have a lot to learn. Dave Weckl knows everything there is to know about every style of drumming...a lot more than you! He would be able to do anything, far better than most drummers, even if you stuck one of his drumsticks up your arse, coz we all no you like buttsecks! (that would leave him with only one stick btw)
